Resomation – Water Cremation

What is Resomation?

Resomation, also known as water cremation, aqua cremation or alkaline hydrolysis, is a relatively new method of disposition of human remains that is gaining popularity as an alternative to traditional burial and cremation.

How does Resomation work?

It involves placing the body in a stainless steel vessel filled with water and a solution of potassium hydroxide, and then subjecting it to high pressure and temperature. The remains are then returned to the family as ashes, just like in traditional cremation.

How does it differ to other types of cremation?

Resomation is considered to be a more eco-friendly and sustainable method of disposition, as it uses less energy and does not release harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. It is also seen as a more dignified and gentler way of handling human remains.
