An enjoyable evening with our MASE friends

Monthly Alzheimer’s Support Evening

On the second Thursday of every month Daphne and Richard, together with their team of amazing volunteers host a social support group for people living with dementia, their Carers, family, and friends between 7pm and 9pm at Haughton Village Hall.

From our connection with Stafford Dementia Action Alliance, we were invited by Daphne to attend the Haughton meeting.

The group is extremely well attended and full of friendship and support.  Love’s Independent Funeral Directors were welcomed and introduced.

Throughout the evening we spoke to most members of the group and answered questions as they arose. The members thanked us for the openness of our responses, to questions that they had previously been unsure about asking.

We were treated to a lovely supper and enjoyed musical entertainment with a little dancing.

An assortment of leaflets were available explaining services, benefits, and resources available for people with dementia and their Carers, from Health, Social Services, voluntary organisations, and the private sector.

The MASE is a great example of partnership working across professional boundaries. Carers have been known to comment that one major benefit of the MASE, is the familiar friendly faces of the regular volunteers that attend each of the evenings.  Many Carers also state how beneficial it is having someone who will simply sit with them and spend time listening to their problems and answering their questions and concerns.
